I woke up at 0200 on Tuesday morning and could not get back to sleep. No matter how much I tried, I stubbornly stayed awake. In frustration I turned the light on and started to read. After a few minutes, a thought crossed my mind: that it might be clear. I pulled back the curtains to see a brilliant moon-lit scene with frost sparkling on the grass.
Despite having work in the morning, I decided to make the most of my wakefulness and get some captures. Jupiter was stunning as always (although I am always disappointed when there isn’t a moon display).
The moon is always a joy and I am chuffed with the mosaic of Mare Crisum – the “city of lights” in the north east corner is particularly eye catching.
Mars was a disappointment. It is getting quite low now and suffering in the murky sky and poor seeing. I will try my 685nm pass filter next time and see if that makes a difference.
I packed up at 0400 as cloud was approaching and was asleep in only a few minutes only to be reluctantly woken by my alarm. The afternoon shift was a bit of a drag that day!
